pet journal tab gives access to in-game pet roster

The Mists of Pandaria expansion, gives WoW players the ability to have pet battles (WoW Pokemon). Their pets will have be able to acquire new and unique attacks and abilities, which they will be able to use when fighting other pets. When a pet wins a battle they gain experience and can eventually gain additional levels. As they level up they will become stronger, tougher and learn new abilities.

The Mists of Pandaria expansion also gives WoW players a new method of adding to their pet collection. The old methods of buying or acquiring pets via the random item drop method still work. However, players can now encounter pets in the wild and attempt to capture them. When you encounter a random pet your pet can challenge it and if your pet happens to win the battle then you will capture it and add it to your pet collection. Captured pets have random stats so it’s possible to get lucky and end up catching and owning a rare and exceptionally powerful pet.

Pet Journal: Your pet roster acts an in-game pet journal, which is where you can display all your vital information about all your pets (name, level, stats, skills and abilities). Players can have up to 500 total pets and up three versions of each pet. The Pet Journal is where players can name, release, designate their favorite or cage them for selling or trading.

Pet Stats: There are four pet stats – Health, Power, Speed, and Quality (i.e. Rarity). Health, Power and Speed increase as your pets level. Overall Quality or rarity designates the overall strength of your pet’s stats and will vary on an individual basis for each of your pets. In addition Higher quality pets receive a larger stat allotment each time they level.

Pet Abilities: Pet Owners get to choose which abilities are active their pets and as the pets gain levels they will also gain access to new and more powerful abilities.

Pet Families: Pets are grouped into families such as Magical, Mechanical, Critter and Draglinkin etc. The pet abilities are matched with these pet families and determine a pet’s relative strength and weaknesses against other families. Per families also have unique passive bonuses. Examples include Lift-Off which is a flying-type ability and Deep Breath is a classic Dragonkin type ability.

Pet Training: Pet Trainers are NPCs that can be found all over Azeroth that can give your pets experience and special achievements if your pet can defeat them in battle.

Pet Capturing: Any pet that you can fight can be captured. This is accomplished by lowering it’s health and the successfully using you trap ability. You trap ability can be upgraded via various achievements and the higher you trap ability the higher your chance to capture pets of higher levels.
