Nightclub City is all about managing a virtual club and was created by BooYAH!. Booyah was previous known for their mobile app game MyTown, which is a real-world Monopoly-like game for the iPhone.
Nightclub City players open their own hot spot. They then get to customize their avatar and nightclub with an assortment of decorative items, invite the hottest celebrities to boost their nightclub’s popularity, and kick bad patrons out with their bouncer! The social network portion of Nightclub City gives players the ability to can hire their Facebook Friends as staff members, and throw parties.
Booyah added a short-lived Energy game mechanic, but dropped it after it was determined that it didn’t help their traffic numbers.
A large part of the game is about playing music, chosen from one of several categories. The “real world” part is that most of the artists you’ll hear in Nightclub City are indie musicians that you could just as easily hear in a real club. The music is so popular that Booyah has released a compilation album on iTunes.
Nightclub City currently has over 2 million monthly active users. Booyah’s software code has the ability to function on either the Facebook platform or iPhone, which probably means there will be some cross-over products being released in the near future, say’s Ken Burridge (editor-in-chief @GameMaster.com).
