China is the New Champion of the Video Game Market

China gains  a 41.5% increase in registered online game accounts in the last year, bringing up the total to 265 million online gamers!

According to China’s Social Sciences Academic Press (SSAP) a Chinese government think tank, China now has the world’s largest online population, which stood at 420 million by the end of June 2010, up 36 million from December last year.

The increase was boosted by rising mobile/cell phone connections and increasing popularity of shopping online and mobile games.

In 2009, China replaced the Republic of Korea to become the second largest video gaming market in the Asia Pacific and the third largest in the world, with a market share of $4.5 billion.

A report by PwC China recently said that “China is now the world’s largest online gaming market, contributing one-third to the global revenue in this sector in 2009, or 56 percent of the Asia Pacific total.  China’s video gaming sector is expected to grow by an annual rate of 33.5 percent, contributing two-thirds of the sector’s total growth in Asia Pacific in the coming five years”.China gains  a 41.5% increase in registered online game accounts in the last year, bring up the total to 265 million online gamers!
